Just in case I need to medicate my tank, what is the general rule for people with Tetras?
I have one red tetra and two neons.

Depends on what U are treating.. Fungus, Bacterial OR parasites..
As tetras are not really to sensitive but can not be treated as cichlids can, U have to be careful on the medication.. guppies well, they dont' do good with meds period.. So keep the tank/filter clean..
REMOVE THE CARBON FROM THE FILTER!! I always keep a sealed media pad without carbon just for medication reasons.. FYI..
I would use Melafix for fungus problems, AS in any white places on the body fins.. U can also use Primafix at the same time, for bacterial problems just in case it is not fungus but bacterial.. YES it is confusing sometimes.. DOSE half the first time to get them used to it and see how they do.. then dose the rest several hr later.. the next day, dose the same way.. JUST to be sure they can handle the meds.. this is a 7 day once a day 1 teas per gal medication so they should do fine..
Parasites, now that is a tricky one. With the fish U have, U have to be careful on the meds. ICH is usually the only Parasite I know of.. worms is only with dirty tanks with to much gravel, say like 3" or more and lazy ppl who do not vac the gravel weekly.. ICH does not like salt and high temps past 80F, so keep the recommend dose in the tank. Keep the temp to 78F or 80F..
U have corys too and they can be killed with Malachite green ingredients.. SO watch that in meds for ICH.. Meds to use with cory's and delicate fish are: Rid-Ich+ OR ICH guard II..
Also do Half DOSE the first day then dose in two seperate times the next day at half dose then the other half in a few hours, so they do not get shocked from the meds. IF they start to dart around for longer than 5 min. do a fast 20gal water change to delute them down and run FRESH carbon in the filter to remove the meds ASAP!!
ICH can not be killed while on the fish, they have to fall off first..
Stress they say plays a part in ICH appearing. I disagree and say it is NO salt and low temps under 74F.. BUT that is just me having 12 tanks sence 2004 and I only had ICH once with new cichlids added into the tank!!.. I keep salt in my tanks at 1/2 dose with a temp of 78F to 80F and I have not had ICH in my tanks now for 4 years!! The goldfish tank now stays at 70F all winter long (NO heater) and they do not get ICH.. Salt is at 1/2 dose..
So If U do have a problem U can ask the LFS(good luck!!) or go on line to see what meds U need.. This is what I recommend U to use thou with the fish U have right now.. ;D
