Every Aquarium should have a heater. But it gets comfussing on wattage. so here is a list of tank sizes and the correct wattages you need: Up to 15 gal tank>>>>>>>50 watt Up to 30 gal tank>>>>>>>100 watt Up to 45 gal Tank>>>>>>>150 watt Up to 75 gal Tank>>>>>>>200 watt Up to 100 gal tank>>>>>> 300 watt
As you can see for every 25 added gallons of water you need 50 watts more. As you tank gets to 75 gal and up you need 100 watts and up. So you may need 2 heaters in a 125 gal and bigger tanks to help stabalize your water temperature. Tropical fish require a steady water temperature of 78F to 82F (25c to 27c) Cichilds can be keep in lower temps under 78F to help with aggression and spawing.. Fluctuating temperatures stresses your fish, making them vulnerable to disease, mostly ICH..
